BLOOM STORY

BACKGROUND

The World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines recommend that every country should plan for its annual emergency blood reserve to meet the blood requirements of at least one percent of its total population. What it translates into the fact that for India with a total population of about 1.3 billion, should have an annual reserve of 13 million blood units.

PROBLEM
The latest data (2015-2016) from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, suggests a collection of about 10.9 million blood units per year. This clearly shows a yearly deficit of 1.2 million blood units.

CURRENT SCENARIO
Family members of patients (Seekers) have tough time in finding donors for emergency blood needs. Blood Banks have scarcity of blood units. They sell/give blood units in cases of emergencies but they ask seekers to find a replacement of blood units. Seekers would send out WhatsApp/Facebook messages to reach out to potential donors. It works but it takes some time. It takes typically 3 hours - 10 days depending upon how many units of blood units are needed.

SOLUTION
1. Create a database of potential voluntary donors with their contact/location information which is accessible on web portal and mobile app
2. Partnership with NGOs having similar voluntary donor database
3. Setup Kiosks in hospitals/Blood Banks wherein seekers can search donors in her area
4. Seeker in need of blood contacts blood donors from our database via email/SMS
5. Donor reaches the blood bank and  donates blood as per the requirement

SOURCE OF REVENUE
1. Partnering with pathology labs/diagnostic/pharmacist or restaurants/merchants
2. Donor receives “Bloom Discount Coupons (BDC)” for discount to the extent of 10% - 20% for service and product offerings by the health check-up centers/conducting dialogistic tests /items purchased from retail stores/dining in restaurants
3. The partnered centers/stores pays 10% as “Customer Acquisition” fee to “BLOOM” and gives discount of 10% to donor customer possessing BDC as a recognition for her social cause

BLOOM - SUCCESS STORY
Currently we have Donor database of 1000 donors across Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune.
On 29th June, 2018 we could connect a donor with a blood recipient.
Razia needed Blood Platelets at Narayan Hrudalaya at Bangalore.
We connected Kushagra Kapika ( Blood Group B+ve ) with patient Razia and Kushagra donated blood for Razia.
